NEWS

KUISCID Newsletter is Now Two Years Old!

In the monthly bulletin of KUISCID, which was established in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to feature news directly from the center. We persist in sharing research, events, and announcements on a monthly basis.

In a short period of time, KUISCID has become a pioneering center in its field in Turkey. We define our mission as finding solutions to infectious problems that closely impact people’s lives, developing approaches towards these solutions, and engaging in a cycle of sharing our findings with the community.

For the past two years, our bulletin has been published without interruption. This is a significant achievement for the continuity of scientific production and serves as an important factor demonstrating the sustainability of our center and its endeavors.

MEETING

National Genomic Surveillance Strategic Meeting

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Turkish Ministry of Health organized a meeting on 13-15 June in Ankara. The scope of the meeting was the role of genomic surveillance in infectious diseases epidemiology. Current laboratory organizations and genomic surveillance applications were discussed in the meeting, and KUISCID was the only center invited, with the participation of KUISCID Director Prof. Önder Ergönül and Assoc. Prof. Mert Kuşkucu.

Along with the surveillance, the importance of the outputs of COVID-19 and the implication of genomic surveillance to infectious agents were discussed in the meeting in terms of defining rational public health strategies.

PUBLICATION

Virus Hunters

KUISCID researchers have published their study in which they collected viral samples from air of hospital settings in  Aerosol and Air Quality Research (AAQR). According to their findings, the Omicron variant spreads rapidly and is able to overcome the immune response which can still cause hospitalization. Full text article can be reached from the link “Omicron Positivity in Air of Hospital Settings Gathered COVID-19 Patients, Vaccinated/Unvaccinated Populations”.

We congratulate our researchers.
