Bacteria and Their Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance of bacteria has become a concerning public health threat with limited therapy options and high mortality rates. K.pneumoniae with its strong resistance profile is able to gain resistance to even one of the last resort antibiotics, carbapenems. In one of our researches with K.pneumoniae collected from various centers from Turkey, we have analyzed the resistance profile and virulence factors of the isolates in a detailed way and observed high mortality rates associated with antibiotic resistance. Along with these results, we have started new multi-centered projects funded by Oxford and Pfizer Global in order to observe the resistance profile of Turkey and constitute a global resistance map as well as to prepare valid antibiotic stewardship protocols.
