Our Ph.D. student Zeynep Ece Kuloğlu received the Prof. Enver Tali Çetin Young Researcher Award of the Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (KLIMIK) with her study: “Effect of BTN162b2 and CoronaVac boosters on humoral and cellular immunity of individuals previously fully vaccinated with CoronaVac against SARS-CoV-2: A longitudinal study”. Oral Presentation Award in 1st Place

Our Ph.D. student Fatihan Pınarlık received the Best Oral Presentation Award (1^st place) at KLIMIK Congress with his study: “Clinical and Molecular Characteristics of carbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa”. We congratulate Nazlı Ataç, Lal Sude Gücer, Jale Boral, Güz Ekinci, and Francis Cooper for their contributions in the study which is still going on.

CONGRESS

National Congress Presentations

KUISCID attended KLIMIK (Congress of Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) held on March 13-16 in Antalya with 8 different oral presentations.

Additionally, our researchers participated in the sessions as speakers. Some of the featured presentations were: Assoc. Prof. Mert Kuşkucu’s speech related to current variants of SARS-CoV-2 and Dr. Özlem Doğan’s speech related to bioengineering of microbiota with Prof. Önder Ergönül and Prof. Füsun Can chairing the sessions. In the same session, our Ph.D. student Gülin Özcan also presented their findings of the ongoing “Urogenital Microbiota” study.

KUISCID Trailer, for being one of the ESCMID Collaborative Center, will be on-air in the ECCMID meeting which will take place in Copenhagen in April, with 15000 participants.

SYMPOSIUM

Health in the New Century of the Republic

In the symposium organized by Science Academy, KUISCID Director Prof. Önder Ergönül gave a speech on “Emerging Infections and Science in Turkey” and Head of Public Health Department Prof. Sibel Sakarya discussed the health issues with her speech “Health Strategies in the Era of Republic”.

PUBLICATION

New Publication with Medical Students

Prof. Önder Ergönül’s study of “COVID-19-associated mucormycosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 958 cases” together with contributions of international expert scientists and effort of Koç University medical students was published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection, a journal of ESCMID (European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases). We congratulate our medical students Laşin Özbek, Umur Topçu, Mehtap Manay, Buğra Han Esen, Şevval Nur Bektaş and Serhat Aydın.

TÜBİTAK Funding for Medical Students

Bedirhan Haykar, Zeynep Bengi Eren, and Berk Kabadayı who are conducting their research within the scope of KUSOM Research Days under the supervision of Prof.Füsun Can have received TÜBİTAK 2209-A (BİDEB) funding with their study “Presence of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A viruses in indoor air in the tertiary university hospital during Omicron wave and normalization period”. İstanbul Medical Chamber Service and Research Award

Infection control nurse Dr. Bahar Madran, in collaboration with KUISCID, received the Istanbul Medical Association Dr. Nejat Yazıcıoğlu Occupational Health Service and Research Award with her studies in COVID-19 infections in healthcare workers, including her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Prof. Önder Ergönül. We congratulate our researcher.

PUBLICATION

COVID-19 Diagnosis Kit Projects Completed

In collaboration with in-house and external counterparts, COVID-19 diagnostic kit projects are completed and published, with the viral studies performed in KUISCID.

Study of “Clinical evaluation of DIAGNOVIR SARS-CoV-2 ultra-rapid antigen test performance compared to PCR-based testing” in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Erkan Tuncay from Ankara University School of Medicine was published in Scientific Reports. We congratulate all of the researchers.
