Research Areas

Microorganisms

We perform our research in virology, bacteriology, and mycology. All microorganisms that may pose a public health threat are in our research area.

Emerging viral infections

  • COVID-19
  • Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever
  • West Nile Fever

Antibiotic resistance

  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Gram-negative infections
    • Klebsiella
    • Pseudomonas

Fungal Infections

  • Candida infections
  • Invasive Aspergillosis

Diseases

We investigate the response of the body to the microorganisms, because some infectious diseases can only be understood by unraveling  the secrets of the immune system.

We feel responsible not only for known diseases, but also unknown diseases that could be infectious in origin. We are reference center for investigation of unknown or unresolved infectious diseases problems.

Diagnostics

Besides the conventional methods, we search and develop novel approaches. We aim to develop easy to use, cheap, and accessible diagnostic tests for infectious diseases.

Treatment

Microorganisms are getting stronger day by day, posing great public health problems. As they keep evolving, we need to improve our strategies in fighting against these organisms. We need a lot more than modifying and repurposing the existing drugs. Therefore, interdisciplinary effort is the key for a more sustainable solution to this problem.

Infection Control

This is an interdisciplinary area and needs much more creative effort than it was thought. We aim to produce creative scientific solutions for infection control. We bridge the research and clinical areas by working together with infection control physicians and nurses.
