National Congress Presentations

KUISCID attended KLİMİK (Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) which was held in Antalya, 6-9 September with several presentations.

KUISCID Director Prof. Önder Ergönül chaired the session “Antimicrobial Stewardship” and Assoc. Prof. Şiran Keske gave a speech about “The Use of Syndromic Panels” to emphasize the risks that are related to increasing antibiotic resistance and rational solutions for this threat as it appears to become a world-wide public health threat.

In the congress, one of the most outstanding sessions was “The Role of Microbiota in Diseases” and KUISCID Vice Director Prof. Füsun Can gave her speech “Genitourinary System Microbiota and Its Effect On Diseases” and Assoc. Prof. Mert Kuşkucu gave his speech “The Role of Microbiota on Neurodegenerative Diseases” to discuss the potential role of microorganisms which are highly associated with our body.

KUISCID researchers Dr. Pelin İrkören, Dr. Lal Sude Gücer, Dr. Yağmur Abik and Dr. Oğuz Usta gave oral and poster presentations and Post-doctoral researcher Cansel Vatansever was awarded with the 3rd oral presentation award with her presentation “Molecular mechanisms of cefiderocol resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii”.

COLLABORATION

KUISCID International Network Extends

Expert researchers of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) visited KUISCID and met our team to discuss the CCHF-related research facilities of KUISCID for upcoming projects. In the meeting, the bullet points of the international CCHF symposium which will be held in Istanbul with KUISCID hosting the meeting, were set.

In Memory of Dr. Bilge Dikenelli

KUISCID researchers have published their study “Alarming Fluoroquinolone resistance Among Non-Typhoidal Salmonella Isolates” in one of the high impact journal Clinical Microbiology and Infection (CMI).

One of the authors of the publication, Dr. Bilge Dikenelli (1978-2024) passed away just after this study was completed. There are not enough words to express our grief but we would like to dedicate this scientific study to her precious memory.

Importance of Antimicrobial Stewardship

KUISCID researchers have published their study on the effect of rational antimicrobial use on thoracic surgery patients “The Practice of Antimicrobial Stewardship in Thoracic Surgery and Its Effectiveness” in IDCM (Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology) Journal. Hızlı tanı yönteminin araştırıldığı “Diagnostic role of opsonic activity in Acinetobacter baumannii Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia” başlıklı makale alanında etki değeri yüksek Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease dergisinde yayınlandı. Bu araştırma ile entübasyon ilişkili zatürre hastaları için büyük bir problemin önüne geçmek amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmacılarımızı tebrik ederiz.
