KUISCID Advisory Board Member Elected as Turkish Medical Association President

KUISCID advisory board member Prof. Alpay Azap was elected as the new president of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB). Prof. Azap is the group leader of the “Immunization” team of Turkey Infectious Diseases (TEH) Report project initiated by KUISCID. We wish success to Alpay Azap in his new position.

Public Health Volunteers visits Adıyaman

Koç University Department of Public Health, with the leadership of Assist. Prof. İlker Kayı was in Adıyaman this month for the training “Community Health Volunteers: Basic health training”. Various trainings are organized in the provinces affected by the devastating February earthquake and carried out by public health volunteers, along with Koç University Faculty of Medicine students. For the training of this month, volunteers came together in Adıyaman Umutkent and provided basic health training. Read out Dr. İlker Kayı’s observations in the earthquake region following the training.

PUBLICATION

Air Screening for Seasonal Respiratory Viruses

KUISICID researchers completed the project, together with medical faculty students, to develop effective methods for the surveillance of seasonal respiratory viruses and to manage outbreaks in a timely manner. Their article “Surveillance of respiratory viruses by aerosol screening in indoor air as an early warning system for epidemics”was published in the journal “Environmental Microbiology”, with a high impact in its field. We congratulate all our researchers.

KUISCID Alumni: Graduation Ceremony, 2024

Jale Boral and Zeynep Gülçe Talay, who successfully completed their doctoral education with the research they conducted at KUISCID, are graduating to complete their PhD.  Jale Boral under supervision of Prof. Füsun Can is awarded with the “outstanding achievement”. We congratulate our alumni and wish them success in their future lives.

Vaccine Hesitancy Among Healthcare Workers

KUISCID researchers have published their article “The COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Healthcare Workers: An Exploration of Hesitancy Reasons and Suggestions to Improve Vaccination Rates” in which they included the reasons for COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers and suggestions for improving vaccination rates overcoming this hesitancy. It was published in the journal “Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology” (IDCM). Congratulations to our researchers.

History of Urinary Infections

The practice of uroscopy, now called urinalysis, has a long history reaching back to the 4th century BC. Urinalysis is important and a useful guiding tool for kidney stones, infections, diabetes, acute or chronic kidney injury and metabolic disorders. In their comparative study “Urinalysis in Medical Diagnosis: the Historical and Contemporary Usage”, KUISCID researchers compared historical and contemporary usage of urinalysis and published their findings in the journal “Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology” (IDCM) .
